it's all happening...again

So...
I am finally coming back.
It's slow.
It isn't easy.
But it's all happening.
I am so grateful.
Thank you for your support, whether it be through energy or otherwise...

And here--for you Virgin Territory followers!
P.s.  Met with Tom Isbell yesterday to talk shop about the script and it was amazing!  I love teachers who never stop teaching!

See? Here's another one!

Iphigenia is haunting me!!

I am 11 months away from my thesis and already the process of creating her (yes, she's a girl) is seeping into everything!  I am seeing virginity and reactions to virginity everywhere!!!!

For instance on Wednesday, I was in Walgreens and saw on the cover of Cosmo: "Virgins in COSMO! (We never thought we'd see the day either"  Then I went to work and saw a pamphlet advertising the Jack Chick play, starring Jack Chick of Chik-a-filet fame with a comic reading :  "Not my brothers!  That's not fair!  Take my virgin daughter instead!"    That's just in one day!

So...anyone want to get interviewed for my thesis?  I'll take you all!  (Though admittedly there are about 8 people who read this blog or even know about its existence so...I know my audience.)

Also if anyone sees anything, share it with me!  I am gathering as much info as possible! Thanks!!

Back home...

I am in Duluth again and it's nice.  Kate, Joey and Lake Superior are definitely home to me.

It's different though because I haven't been up here since Ben and I broke up.  This city is full of so many memories.  Pulling off the band-aid all over again...  When will it stop?  Will this ever get easier? Please?

The summer so far has been devoted to Hooferjackal and A.S.S--the Active Summer (of gettin') Sexy!  I am trying to reclaim my health and disclaim the 20 lbs I have gained this year.  It is a long, slow, hard, disheartening road.  But I'm glad I'm on it.  I feel like it will help me get back to me--all of me, the good me--at last after the last months of perpetually feeling at a loss or just totally lost.  So far I have gone back to Hot Yoga, Hot Yoga Sculpt, kettlebell, Reformer Pilates, Hip Hop class, and basic elliptical cardio work.  I am on a 7 workout a week schedule for 3 weeks now.  4 lbs gone but not much noticeable progress...frustrating!  But I am going to stick with it and see it through.  It's really important to me.

that's all for now I suppose...
much love...

The first draft of Hooferjackal is completely finished and I sit here making copies for the various folk who need them.

It's interesting.  What started as a small project to help Lex acclimate to socializing has turned into a beast overcoming a small family with financial means.  It has also become an exercise of artistic integrity versus economic need versus my love for Lex.  Lex is winning every time so far, but I must admit looking forward to two weeks in Duluth with my beloved theatre antics and my even more beloved Kate and Joey.  What this is right now is like an extended graduate assistantship with better money.  It just isn't what I thought it would be, but I so appreciate it as my summer job.

More Hooferjackal pages...

For those of you who don't know, Lex and I wrote a book (more on that process at a later time) which will be published by the end of the summer.  Here are some of the newest pages.  Quick intro: Lex created these crazy, bizarre characters and I put his ideas into a story and illustrated it!  Here is another taste of "Ever Met the Hooferjackal?"   (Sorry about the side ways thing, but I'm not super computer savvy...)

Two years ago from today...

I was in India, sitting on a Buddha and experiencing clarity.
Life has changed a lot and I'm not exactly doing that anymore
But I am close to clarity again.  I can feel it.
It's gonna be a good summer for that.

Couch-Hopping: Chapter One

Well, it's begun--Nikki's Gypsy Summer.  Now for the second summer in a row, I have packed up and will be floating around Minnesota as I gig wherever the work is and leave my beautiful apartment empty because there is NO work in Mankato for me.

The first couch I have found myself on is Diana's.  A quick refresher for those audience members playing at home: Diana and I went to undergrad together from day one, Voice and Movement class.  We were a part of the Freshmen Divas--7 girls who were obviously all best friends to begin with and then exploded shortly thereafter.  Other members include Suz, Eve, Sarah (married w/baby), Brytta (married w/baby) and Bell (married w/baby). We few single ladies left must stick together although that hasn't really been our tendency.  Furthermore of all seven ladies, I am the only one left in Theatre.  Everyone else has a "real" job.  Which is fortunate for me as I need to stay at their houses now!! :)

So Diana lives and works at the Excelsior and Grand complexes in shi-shi St. Louis Park.  Last night was the first time that I became horribly aware of how different my life was from my college friends who have left theatre.  Diana's apartment is GORGEOUS!  It literally has three times the square footage my one-bedroom heaven in Kato.  There is private underground parking, an indoor pool, workout rooms and tons of shops and eateries along the boulevard, essentially insuring that none of the people that live in the complex ever have to leave the square block.  Diana is living in a yuppie retirement home pretty much.  I met up with her last night after the gym and she and her co-workers/neighbors/friends were sitting outside at McCoy's, a restaurant across the boulevard from their office and apartment.  They had been there for four hours just sitting outside talking to everyone who walked by.  It seems that the Excelsior and Grand folk have figured out a way to make a teeny tiny town exist in the middle of urbania.  Diana described her day to me:  Wake up, get dressed, take the elevator down to her office, go on a coffee run next door at Starbucks, breakfast run on the other side at Panera's, back to work, lunch across the boulevard at Laredo's, back to work, happy hour at McCoy's, back up to the elevator to home.  Need groceries or booze?  Trader Joe's is at the end of the block.  Clothes?  There are 4 or 5 boutiques on the block.  Pet supplies?  Pet boutiques too.  Good old fashioned Target run?  Well, that's about 9 blocks away, so Diana hasn't gotten there in about a month is in dire need of it.  She hopes to get that done this week.

Her couch was wonderfully comfortable and the central air was a nice change.  She is a delightful hostess and it's nice to see her so happy.  I can't hang out with her in this world of course, as I cannot afford any of those places mentioned.  But when she comes home at night, I bet we'll have nice talks.  It's not jealousy that I have when I look at her life, it's shock.  How did I not notice my friends going into these different lives?  I had no idea homogenization would make D so happy but it really has.  She's calm in a way I have never seen her before, especially when we used to run around Uptown or Northeast.  It's nice.  I guess we have all been working on finding ourselves and sure enough, we ended up in different places.  D has a lovely life.

And I thank her for sharing it with me.  And her couch too obviously. :)

Hooferjackal! That's him!
