mutterings...
In an act of avoidance toward my final homework assignments, I have just spent an hour on msnbc and newsweek catching up with the world. There is crazy shit happening out there!!!
The good: The Pope met with abuse victims today. I think this is a step in the right direction for Catholics and for those of us who once upon time considered ourself Catholic. Though I know I'll never call myself Catholic again, to see the "Holy See" reach out to the people who were most affected, as opposed to just communicating with the clergy and paying off the victims is the right thing. So much of Catholicism is based on ritual and symbolism. I think this is a good symbol. Go Church!
The bad: The Democratic race is disheartening to say the least. A month ago, I believed in the change everyone was preaching about. Now...it looks just like any other political race. Except there is a woman and a black man involved. Rise above! We need you!
The ugly: Did you guys see the article about the Yale art student whose senior portfolio was about her giving herself an abortion every month for nine months in order to begin a real conversations about "art's effect of the body"?! Her exhibition consists of video diaries projected on a clear cube hanging from the ceiling that has been wrapped in cellophane and the blood from her miscarriages that she's been preserving for the last nine months! THIS IS NOT ART!!! Exploitative? Yes. Shocking? Yes. Provocative? You bet. But shit like this gives us artists and us women bad names. It's like "Pissed Christ" from the 90s, but not as thought-provoking. If you don't know what Pissed Christ is, google it now.
The random: Lilah can play fetch. How cool is that? I love my cat.
Love!

Good news!
I am so proud of my boyfriend!
Ben just got a new job and it is PERFECT for him! Beginning at the end of the month, Ben will be Kitchen Manager at The Loop in downtown Minneapolis. He will get to make all the forward steps in his career that he has been working towards! I am so proud of him!
Millie opens Thursday! It's gonna be good, I think. One of our leads had an epileptic seizure today and I am going on for for the rest of the week, maybe even on Thursday...but I hope she's back by then. She's worked so hard and deserves to experience the success. I'm sure she'll be back...otherwise you can come to Mankato and come check out Nikki dust off her tap shoes again!
Also, if anyone reads this, send some positive energy to my dear friend here, Allen. (Kelli, he's the Betty White quote guy) His partner died unexpectedly this weekend. It came out of nowhere, respectively and Allen is going through a really hard time. When I heard the news, I was instantly brought back to dealing with Richard's death again. It was 8 years ago, but every once in a while, I feel the loss again as if it were just happening. Anyway...much love to Allen!
And much love to all of you...

gratitude
After a few months of hard times (although not all that hard in comparison to many), I've decided to take a page out of Oprah's book and declare my gratitude for so many things and people in my life that really make a difference. So yes, I'm busy and overworked and never have any me time or Ben time, and haven't spent any time with friends in months, I still got it pretty damn good. It's easy to see that after a day of hiking through the beautiful Cascade mountains in Portland with a soul sister like Kelli. P.s. Wanna get over yourself? Go witness the magnitude of nature. There's just nothing in your life that is as big a deal as waterfalls off of mountains. Trust. So...
Family-- Mom, Dad, Brenda, Chris, Bree, & Scott--I am so grateful to have the kind of parents and siblings that take me as I am any time they can get me. I have the kind of family that makes sacrifices in their own lives to make my life easier. I have the kind of family that celebrates my dreams and my pursuit of happiness. I have the kind of family that listens to my bitch for an hour, and then keeps it positive. I am grateful for you.
Friends--Cory, Pat, Alex, long distance: Jeana, Zac, & the NYC crew--I am so grateful to have the kind of friends that always allow me to pick up where I left off. I have the kind of friends who understand life's constraints and are happy to share whatever moments we can. After a year of losing the closest friend I'd had, the presence of you wonderful people pursuing your own journeys, who understand you have my undying support and love whenever you need it, even if our phyiscal presence isnt' there for each other. Whether it be a random phone call at 1am or one liner of an e-mail, I love my friends dearly, no matter what our pasts look like.
The Universal Family we've made--Kate, Kate, and Kelli--I am so grateful to have the kind of soul sisters who understand my spirit, energy, and karma. The kind of women who celebrate my need to cleanse and pontificate about my place in the universe and the true nature of my purpose. Thank you for knowing that when my karma feels bad, it's a really big deal to me. Thank you for the unsaid and open invitation you've given me to all of your sanctuarys. Thank you for your universal love. I am grateful.
Ben--I am grateful to have the kind of love that feels like partnership with no end date in sight. It's been hard lately, but I am grateful that we both have fortitude and seriousness of purpse to finish what we began so we can have the life we dream about. I am grateful to at last, know what it is to be LOVED and to truly love in return.
Theater--I am grateful to have had the kind of support from the previous listed gratitudes to still be having a deep love affair with this art. I love you, Theater. In your ugly, beautiful, human, and divine natures, you are the life I've chosen to pursue without many doubts and without ANY regrets. I am so grateful that I have been blessed to have the means to continue to pursue the theater artist's life. And regardless of the hoops and the gauntlets that currently accompany the presence of theater in my life, I am so grateful to be attaining the kind of knowledge that is going to make it possible to make this a life long love affair.
Dance--Two knee surgerys, obesity, money constraints and lack of availability, and you still fill my soul like nothing else. You have never left me. I have never been nor will I ever be an amazing technical dancer, but dancing feels right in my body and has been my soul-filler and salvation, far more than any church service. I am grateful that my parents started it for me, my mom fought hard that I never had to stop it, and that I knew myself well enough to know it was a part of me. I am grateful.
NYC, Boston, Orlando, Vegas, Portland, Russia, Italy, India, and all the others--I am so grateful to have been born into a life where travel was able to happen. The many place I have been blessed enough to have witnessed have broadened my perspective, instilled gratitude for where I come from, and made me who I am. For the previous gratitudes who I have traveled with or travelled to, you are also a part of this part of the journey for me. I am so grateful to have seen what I have seen and to see what I see.
The babies--Lex, Carter, Logan, and Delilah--I am so grateful to experience what it is to love something more than I love myself and to know what it is to truly consider what another being NEEDS to be happy. It has changed me to love you and to care for you, to understand your dependance and your potential. I am grateful that you came into my life and made my heart grow exponentially.
Oprah's right. I feel good now. In perspective, I have no reason to feel any other way. Thank you thank you thank you...
Namaste...

Dog Sees God post mortum
I am starting to see the kids around the halls again and it's like running into an old secret friend. Like maybe someone that you grew up with in the neighborhood but you didn't necessarily hang out with them at school, but when you make eye contact, you know that you really know each other? So here's my baby, all grown up... or at least a few photos of it...

a case of the januarys...
last january, i had a case of the blues so severe and so intense, that my friends just dubbed them the 'januarys' and we all knew to never bring them or that month of my life up again.
now, this is in no way a comparison, but i am definitely fighting a minor case of the januarys. this whole week, i have just been feeling aimless, emotional, a little sick (oh, the new news is that i have a bleeding ulcer, according to a doctor on duty at urgent care monday night), and unmotivated. this happens every year at this time, but i'd like to skip this part of the year, you know?
well, i just found a great way to do it! I just made a 'happiness' slideshow with a happiness soundtrack on my happy little macbook pro! i was going through iphoto and came across some awesome photos that made me smile even though i have been intent on staying near catatonic. if i was really good on this computer, i'd be able to make it a link and you'd all be able to see it, but i don't know how to do that. if someone does (Patrick!), let me know how! in the meantime, here are two photos from this fall that i always meant to put up on the blog and never got around to it with the other events of life. hee hee hee...

now off to aristotle's poetics... i've read it twice so far and still don't understand any of it. grrr. thanks friends and family for making me smile again just be looking at your faces! if you know about this blog, you are in my happiness slideshow!

part two...
you would think...
Having a month off of school would have made a difference in the amount of blogs I posted. Apparently not. Where did break go? I have a week left and all of a sudden I am in a panic about the amount of work I have to get done before Friday. What have I been doing, you ask? Driving around the state (a lot), hanging out with friends (a little), and sleeping (more than I care to admit). Here are some highlights from Christmas vacation:
src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjzyePikWCZwjIid9SR5sz58DXbS5ve0acSE-G2GIOEBhW9z-nf4XlMKkScva0BL3H0cH5ny2_z2hr-JXqwSniszKxN3FjKHhwO55yFihp6baolJwDreQjCgLKrpWfINsOcEanSexBCmnNO/s400/DSC01775.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5152065098052827554" /> A lovely night out with my lovely girlfriends, Kristen and Eve. And dang, can those girls sing karaoke and interpretive dance! I can't take my eyes off of you...
Ben and I went to Monday night football against the Bears (the Vikes' last win...sigh...) and had an incredible time. The Metrodome gets insanely loud and full of energy and it was great.

The Schnettler women finally got a good picture together and had a rather nice Christmas together too. Though Grandma still holds true within the hat-trick of Christmas haters (Scrooge and the Grinch being the others), she and I had some very nice talks over the vacation and I do love her a lot.
